Heart

Here to stay

It’s not that I don’t believe in Valentine’s Day,
But please if I may
just have my little say.
Apologies if what I say
comes out in a controversial way,
You may not agree with what I have to say,
And that’s okay.

This day was never meant for romance,
But now retailers take a chance
And put the consumers in a trance
To make buyers fall for their money dance.
And if we only take a glance
At the history of this day’s nuance,
We might take a different stance.

Apart from the history,
The other part that bothers me
Is how this day seems to be
The only time that he and she
Makes an effort to see
Their partners delight and glee.

Dates, cooking, chocolates and concurrences
Should be regular occurences
Weekly or Monthly recurrences
And romance should have no deterrences.

For some women this is the only day when
Their men pretend to comprehend
The magnitude of loving them, then
They take what they get, brag to a friend
And secretly wish it could happen again
And again

We wear red
Cause they said
Its the colour of love, its in our head…
The colour that leads to bed,
But yesterday it was the colour they bled.
So today I wore black
Not because their is any lack
My marriage is great, on track.
To a happy marriage there is a hack,
Never look back and never slack
On the small things, like a piggyback.

My husband showed me that I don’t need this day,
For him to say
That come what may
He is here to stay.
